Solskogen 2011
February 19th, 2012My old demogroup went to hibernate back in '99. Since then we've been grinding on about the good old days virtually every time we meet.
Over 10 years later, the electronic knights proved to have a heartbeat after all. Some of the guys still interested in the scene decided to go to Solskogen 2011, a demoparty outside Oslo.
Hanging out with fellow Amiga worshippers and people loving digital arts was nice. Good atmosphere, lots of humour and good times during the compos on Saturday. The entries were fun; some pretty amazing.
Paradox and I wrote some partycode while diffy did the beats. Didn't finish anything in time for handing in, but at least we got something going for later.
Something like a big van would've been nice for covering some basics like sleep, food and a place to relax. Comfort is more important than it used to be I guess. Lesson learned, but all in all happy about going.
Memento Mori
May 5th, 2010Years ago, we used to talk about The DOOM Feeling; an enigmatic onset of pure bliss that could occur during DOOM sessions. This weekend at Yashar's offered that rare but familiar feeling.
Highlights included intense TNTBLOOD and GOTHICDM deathmatch, as well as late night cooperative play on Memento Mori. Shared preferences as to what makes good DOOM party and nice event altogether. Thanks guys.
The Pang Mission
October 5th, 2009I spent a lot of time on Pang back in the days. Fun gameplay requiring somewhat tactical thinking, and traveling across the map gives a nice journey-feeling.
Daniel and I decided to try some two-player. Inspired by Twin Galaxies and Billy Mitchell's Pac-Man achievement, we agreed on to record a non-stop game start to finish, completing all 50 levels.
It all turned into a couple of serious nights of Pang play. After dozen attempts stranding on the second Antartica stage, we made it :) Video coming up.
Guru Meditation
April 22nd, 2009Most Amiga users are probably familiar with the good old Guru Meditation screen, the equivalent to a BSOD in Windows. I really like it, so I decided to wear it.
The Plutonia Experiment
September 7th, 2008Mission: The Plutonia Experiment
Marines: Daniel, Christian
Invited Daniel over for a DOOM weekend. Had a good time taking a stab at old Plutonia. Lots of fun and moments, and plenty of beatings from Archviles and Revenants.
The prBoom port worked out really well. Most of all because it's being true to the original game, but also because it supports saving and loading netgames.
We had 2-3 crashes, which isn't that bad. Unfortunately, it seems as if development has come to a halt, with the last version being released back in 2006.
Still strong after all the years.
